Forest School and Outdoor Alternative Educational Program

The Outdoor Alternative Educational Program offers young people the opportunity to be outside in nature and reap all the therapeutic benefits that entails. So much time is spent concentrating on technology, the over stimulus of this can make it challenging to focus. This is more important than ever with the recent pandemic and the additional challenges it has brought to our young people.

This project empowers young people by building confidence, resilience, critical thinking, and problem solving by engaging them with the surroundings we live in. These skills are then transferrable into daily routines. Educational activities based on connection with nature and animals will enhance confidence and increase communication and social skills whilst learning about the world we live in.

Many activities will be participant lead and follow a person-centred plan to what participants would like to achieve by attending the program. Exploring how they feel on a day-to-day basis and how they approach events and challenges they come across in life. They will set their own goals and monitor their progress by creating a tree of aspirations. We as the provider also measure each participants’ progress, to best support their needs.
Young people are supported in becoming confident, creative and independent individuals who can work effectively by themselves and in groups.
This program is a mixture of Equine assisted learning, bushcraft activities, Foraging, Outdoor cooking, permaculture, and natural arts. These elements maximise learning opportunities and complement each other in creating quality independent and group activities. Individuals will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities designed to offer them an alternative form of education and to support them in developing practical and social skills and improving their wellbeing.
